  • 2017-18 Department of Public Instruction Bay View Schools Report Cards

    Overall Score

    The report cards issued by the Wisconsin Department of Instruction for Bay View Schools demonstrate that 10 of this community’s 11 schools are performing at or above expectations.

    Saint Lucas Lutheran School solely achieved DPI’s “Significantly Exceeds Expectations” score, but Downtown Montessori only missed it by 1.1 points and Humboldt Park by 3.5 points.

    Five schools received DPI’s “Exceeds Expectations” score: Downtown Montessori, Humboldt Park, Fernwood Montessori, Trowbridge, and Burdick.

  • Google tests virtual reality gadgets and software at Saint Lucas

    The ultimate field trip — Saint Lucas Lutheran School students travel the world through the Google Expeditions Pioneer Program. Google visited the school to test its new virtual reality program and get feedback from teachers and students. The virtual reality experience allows teachers to guide students through 360 degree tours of landmarks and other interesting locations like the Badlands, the Congo, and the Roman Coliseum.

    “We’re still in the design process,” she says. “We know in order to have a workable plan, we’ll have to change it multiple times.”
    The seventh grader has a mature sense of what some might call “failure.” For Hannah, failure is part of a series of opportunities in which a creative idea becomes a reality. In fact, in Saint Lucas Lutheran School’s STEM lab – where Science, Technology, Engineering and Math rule – it’s actually a win.

  • Saint Lucas students explore tomorrow’s careers through new STEM program

    To prepare students for tomorrow’s workplace, Saint Lucas Lutheran School, 648 E. Dover St., introduced STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in its sixth through eight-grade curriculum beginning in January. Over the summer, two classrooms were converted to a new STEM lab, complete with a large 3D printer, height-adjustable desks, Dell desktop computers, drill press, band saw, and more.

    Hannah Behroozi, a sixth-grader at Saint Lucas Lutheran School in Bay View, tied for sixth place in the 2015 Wisconsin National Geographic State Bee, Behroozi, was the only student from Milwaukee to make it into the top 10 and the only girl.

    For more than a century, St. Lucas and Milwaukee Public Schools’ Dover School enjoyed a friendly relationship, one emblematic of the neighborly community values that have characterized Bay View for generations. . . . A desire to preserve the long legacy of cooperation between St. Lucas and Dover School was echoed by Rocky Marcoux, Department of City Development commissioner. “Mayor Barrett wanted to find a way to meet St. Lucas’ needs. He asked me to work with St. Lucas, the developer, and MPS.
