Activity: STEM Lab dedication celebration and open house
Time: 2 to 4 p.m.
Location: School gym
Description:

Please join us for a time of rejoicing as we celebrate the goodness of God and the dedication of Saint Lucas’ new STEM Lab on Sunday, Oct. 11. The dedication service will begin at 2 p.m. in the school gym. Immediately following the service, everyone is invited to tour the new space and attend our open house and Org Smorg. Learn about the smorgasbord of organizations that you can connect with as a Saint Lucas student, parent, alum, member or friend. Light refreshments will be served.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Through “Project Lead the Way,” which is the nation’s leading provider of STEM programs, students in K5 through eighth grade will discover practical, hands-on uses for the information they’re studying in school. For example, middle school students will use their understanding of math equations and computer programming to build and assemble robots. They’ll also bring computer-designed models to life with their new 3D printer. Elementary school students will explore “biomimicry,” which involves looking at nature to solve engineering problems. Then, they’ll use what they learned to create a new kind of shoe for an exotic trip to the Arctic, African Savanna, Sahara Desert or Amazon Rainforest.
We give thanks to God for these exciting opportunities!

Did you know?
Velcro was invented by Swiss engineer George de Mestral in 1941 after he removed burrs from his dog and decided to take a closer look at how they worked. The small hooks found at the end of the burr needles inspired him to create the now ubiquitous Velcro. Think about it: without this material, the world wouldn’t know Velcro jumping — a sport in which people dressed in full suits of Velcro attempt to throw their bodies as high up on a wall as possible.
